Metal Braces

metal-bracesMetal braces are the most common type. They are made of high-grade stainless steel. Today's metal braces are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive.

The Parts of Metal Braces

  • Brackets: An orthodontic attachment that is secured to a tooth (either by bonding or banding) for the purpose of engaging an archwire.
  • Archwire: A wire engaged in orthodontic attachments, affixed to the crowns of two or more teeth and capable of causing or guiding tooth movement.
  • Elastics (rubber bands): Used to move teeth in prescribed direction (commonly connected to molar band and upper ball hook).

How Metal Braces Work

Each patient’s orthodontic condition requires a treatment plan based on a specialized diagnosis of the case. The treatment process involves X-rays, dental impressions and photographs. Braces have one aim: to use gentle pressure to move teeth into proper alignment. Treatment time varies depending on age, patient compliance and the severity of the condition.

Traditional metal braces are still the most commonly used orthodontic system, and with good reason: they are reliable, quick and cost-effective. Please contact our office to learn more about how metal braces can help you.
